# Expression Lines

## Quick Summary

Expression Lines are wrinkles that appear or deepen when the face moves, such as smiling, squinting, raising the brows, or frowning. They may fade when the face relaxes at first, then become more visible at rest over time. In skincare, this concern is about softening the look of movement-related creases and supporting smoother texture. It is not about stopping facial expression or replacing clinician-led neuromodulator procedures. The useful skincare frame is “less etched and better hydrated,” not “frozen” or permanently lifted.

## Causes

Expression lines come from repeated folding of the same skin zones during normal facial movement. UV exposure, dryness, thinning skin support, and reduced elasticity cues can make those folds look sharper. Areas with frequent movement, such as the forehead, outer eyes, and between the brows, often show them first. Because movement is part of the cause, topical skincare has a surface-support role rather than a true muscle-relaxing role. Dehydration can also make shallow movement lines look deeper by reducing surface plumpness.
