# Slugging Breakouts

## Quick Summary

Slugging breakouts happen when a heavy occlusive layer seems to worsen clogged-looking bumps. Petrolatum itself is not automatically acne-causing, but the full routine underneath matters.

## Causes

Layering petrolatum over heavy creams, oils, sweat, makeup, sunscreen residue, or comedogenic products can trap a routine that was already too rich for that skin.
